No matter how carefully you unpack your wedding dress; there will always be some wrinkles. Usually you will just let the bridal or dry-cleaning store take care of it. But what if there is no time anymore? No stress, you can solve this by yourself. Ironing your wedding dress probably sounds scary, but it is actually very simple. You do not need an expensive dry-cleaning store. With our tips, you can iron your dress like a pro.
1. Make sure there is no water leaking
Avoid droplets of water dripping from your flatiron. These will leave stains on your white wedding dress. Of course, you do not want to walk to the altar with a dress full of stains. So be careful and first start on a t-shirt to make sure nothing is leaking.
2. Avoid steam
Try to avoid steam. Especially when you dress is made of silk or satin it is better not to iron with steam. Most wedding dresses are made of silk and satin. Iron without steam if you are uncertain what kind of fabric it is. Steam gives exactly the same effect as water: stains and large circles in your dress.
3. Never iron tulle
Tulle is the transparent mesh-like material. It is, for example, around the skirt or in the veil. Tulle cannot withstand the heat of an iron. If skirt of veil really are in need of straining, blow some heat from a distance. The fabric will drop out due to the heat.
4. Watch out for the heat
Depending on the fabric, you have to adjust the heat. However, we advise to exclusively iron cold. Adjust your flatiron on the lowest heat. You can slightly raise it when the fabric does not react at all. Put a white towel between the flatiron and the fabric, this way you will not cause any stains, neither from burns nor from colored towels. When you use a towel, it is better to avoid ironing the edges of the towel, as these may cause ugly wrinkles.
5. Hang out the dress
Do you prefer to avoid ironing? Make sure you hang out the dress well before the wedding. Because of the weight, this way most wrinkles straighten out themselves before the wedding.
