Flash mob tips

Want to organize a flash mob by yourself? WonderWeddings has drawn up a handy step-by-step guideline.

  • First of all, bring some important people together. This group will organize the flash mob. Think about the witnesses, the master of ceremonies and the father or mother from the bride and groom. Meet each other and talk about the song, the dance and whoever needs to join the flash mob.
  • How do you give substance to the flash mob? Think about a choreography for the dance. Maybe there is someone among you who has knowledge of dancing. Go for a simple dance when many people need to participate during the flash mob. Look around on YouTube or watch the videos below for inspiration.
  • How big will the group be? How many people want to participate? Prepare an e-mail or print a flyer and distribute it among the invitees. Keep in mind that a large group is more difficult to coordinate.
  • Choose the location. Will it be at the church or at the party location? Before you decide the location, consider if there is a sound system for the music.
  • The group can practice before the wedding. It might be easier to send a video with the dance steps to practice at home. Tip: let someone play the leading role. This could be the mother, father, grandmother, grandfather or children. They can study a separate – simple – choreography. For example, the rest of the group dances around him or her.
  • Choose a signal to point out that the flash mob is starting. It must be a surprise, so choose a time or let one person give the signal by starting the music.
  • Someone who is not participating during the flash mob, could film the event. Afterwards everybody can see the reaction from the bride and groom. Maybe the photographer of videographer could film or take pictures picture from above the crowd. That will give a good view from the flash mob.
  • Last but not least: have fun and dance as if your life depends on it!
