Weddingrings made of Mokume-gane
Birgit Doesborg (Venlo, 1967), nicknamed "Does" graduated as gold- and silversmith in 1992 at the MTS Vakschool Schoonhoven.
From her studio in 's-Hertogenbosch she designs jewelry and ornamental objects in her own style which is heavily influenced by natural forms such as the year rings of a tree and layers of rock.
As one of the few goldsmith she practices the Japanese forging technique Mokume-gane means literally "wood-grain metal" and was originally an ancient (17th century) Japanese forging technique .In this ancient technique layers of metal are forged under immense pressure and heat. This result in unique jewels with organic shapes.
