Walk in the footsteps of royalty and become part of our unique hotel story. Hosting brilliantly at the heart of Durham since 1815 the Durham Marriott Hotel Royal County is Durham’s original royal residence. Look closely at the front of the hotel you’ll notice that this charming property is in fact a series of town houses, the oldest dating back to 1630.

Licensed for civil ceremonies, the hotel is a truly unique historical venue – the carved oak staircase, a favourite with many Bride and Grooms, is even older than the building in which it is housed. Originally set in Loch Leven Castle it dates back to the time of Mary Queen of Scots and it provides the backdrop for many a memorable photograph.

But this is tradition with a modern twist. ‘Something old’ blends with ‘Something new’. The delightful Pommery Champagne Terrace sits alongside the beautifully appointed historic hotel.
