Welcome to Heart and Soul Weddings & Events
Who and Where I Serve: Whether you are looking for a time honored ceremony and/or a unique ritual for yourself or a loved one, I will help you create a process or event that reflects your desire to honor the situation or occasion. I am a ordained interdenominational minster who is passionate about creating sacred ceremonies for just about any occasion for people, places and pets. I am also a legal wedding officiant in the State of Kansas and Missouri and can perform weddings in many other states if given enough notice to apply for an out of state license. See my bio in "About Rev. Annika" to see details of my education, skills and experience that have me bringing a wealth of knowledge and wisdom to all I serve. For ceremonies and in-person services, most clients come from the Kansas City area, but I have clients who work with me from a distance since some rituals and blessings can be done over the phone.
The Evolution of Ceremonies and Rituals in My Life: Before I even became a minister, I was creating ceremonies and rituals. I would say that it started when I was working in the corporate world as a training and development manager. Part of my job was to develop curriculum to support managers in being effective, but what I really loved was helping teams work more harmoniously together. Often when there was a lot of negativity, I would help the manager of the team to develop some feedback and reinforcement systems that really became weekly or in some cases monthly rituals that included ceremonial like celebrations for the team. Most people are comfortable with the word ceremony, but what is a ritual? The Merriam-Webster dictionary states that a ritual is "the established form for a ceremony; specifically: the order, of words prescribed for religious, secular and fraternal organizations ceremonies," but it also defines ritual as "an act or series of acts regularly repeated in a set precise manner". So yes, even having a cup of coffee in the morning while checking email can be considered a ritual. That leads to a deeper question on how do rituals serve us. I think that Barbara Bizious who wrote the book, "Joy of Ritual" explains it best. Basically, she talks about how ceremonies and rituals fulfill are need for community and communion while helping us to make sense of the world and where we fit into it. These events and acts also expand our consciousness and connect us to the great mystery of life. So now your asking can a morning ritual do that? Hey, if it gives you some peace of mind and sets you up for your day, then I say Yes! In regards to more public ceremonies, I did officiate two weddings before I officially became a minister. My closest friends call me the "Queen of Ritual" because I am always having events at my home or a friend's place to honor some holiday or mark an important event in my or someone else's life. Yet, it was such a wonderful surprise when two dear friends asked me to help them with their weddings. To officiate my first wedding in 2006, I needed the help of another minster friend to make the wedding official. You can visit my blog to read more about this ceremony from the bride's perspective - and to learn more about how special this wedding for almost everyone involved. I officiated my second wedding in 2007 upon receiving a special one day license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to solemnize the nuptials of one of my closest friends. That was a turning point for me .... I was so inspired and wanted to help more couples with their marriage ceremonies that I started to research going to ministerial school. I found a seminary program that fit in with my spiritual values and supported my life long goal of helping others find peace in their life no matter what their religion. Finally my dreams came true, for in the Fall of 2008, I was ordained as a peace minster from the Seminary for Spiritual Peacemaking in Ashland, Oregon. There are more stories about me that pertain to each facet of my work so I invite you to peruse through my offerings, blog and gallery of photos to learn about the types of ceremonies and rituals I create to help my clients with. At the very least, know I am comfortable with creating traditional ceremonies to very creative out of the box type of ceremonies for individuals, couples and groups. Not sure what you need, but if you have a good feeling that I can help you, please call me at 617.416.0157 or email me. |
